Cybersecurity

Protecting your physical stuff with a lock or two is pretty straightforward. Cybersecurity, on the other hand, is another matter.

Since most of us don’t know as much about the internet and how things like websites and email really work, we're vulnerable to hackers. Hence...cybersecurity. Actions taken on software, hardware, and internet applications to protect electronic info, keeping it safe and sound.

Hacking can happen in a lot of ways. It can involve tricking you into thinking something is one thing ("oh, an email from my bank!") when it’s not ("oh, that’s weird...why isn’t my login working?"). But it can also happen other ways. Don’t look to Hollywood for cyberhacking and cybersecuity examples...they’re pretty terrible. Just google “NCIS hacking” and you’ll see what we mean.

While it’s good to keep up-to-date to make sure you don’t get hacked personally, it’s big businesses with pots-of-gold info that are the more likely targets of hackers. And you can’t really do anything about it if a business has your info, and that business gets hacked. We’ll see if the government eventually enacts some policy about this, since it’s a relatively new issue for high-tech humanity.
