A chartered life underwriter works with clients to figure out the best life insurance and estate planning options. To get the "charter," a CLU gets certified by The American College.
The certification requires three years of recent full-time business experience and the taking of eight courses (five core and three elective), totaling 24 credit hours. On an ongoing basis, the CLU must take 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
